A caution about the water brought Richard out of his thoughts for a moment. he looked from the corner of his eye to see a man behind him. Whether that he’s been around the area for a while and just so happened to approach Richard or just came over as a whole was of little concern to the noble at the moment. But from what he could tell, it did bring him out of his thoughts. The air seemed pretty casual to Richard, judging by the man’s unconcerned tone about mentioning leeches in the bottom of the lake. And Richard could see a ghost of a smirk on the man’s lips.Was he trying to mess with him?
Richard gave a little smile of his as he turned his head to glance over at the brunette behind him. “I wouldn’t worry about those leeches too much. The water’s shallow on this side, so they would be easier to spot and shoo away. Thank you for the concern though, sir.” he replied, his response sounding very casual despite his polite tone.
Although Jade doubted that leeches would suffer to be shooed away like a common house fly, Jade did not argue, a deceptively coy smile settled about his features as he regarded the other. Now that he looked at him more closely, there were many things about the pair of them that were rather similar. Had it not been for the stark contrast of golden hair to simple brunette perhaps they may have been mistaken for family. More likely grandfather and grandkid as opposed to siblings, Jade joked quietly with himself. And, it was this thought that brought a soft chuckle forth from his lips.
“If you have decided it is worth the risk then I won’t argue with you. Although, you do seem to be less troublesome than the other kids…so I will offer my services as a doctor if you ever need them.” Jade mused, considering that perhaps he was being a sliver too kind to this kid he hardly knew. Granted, the physical aspect of medicinal sciences had never been his focus as a doctor…but it would have to do. Removing a couple of the supposed leeches would be no difficult task.
“Now then, perhaps you might be so kind as to offer me your name. I am Colonel Jade Curtiss. However, titles do not seem to be of consequence in this place…so you may simply call me ‘Jade’. Or ‘Sir’ if you are feeling particularly…obsequious.”
